![]() ![]() The Indiana Jones series is a clear inspiration for the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, with both franchises combining paranormal elements with classic serial-style adventure stories. With nods to Spielberg, a forgotten fantasy classic, and of course cinema’s most famous adventurer, The Curse of the Black Pearl managed to turn a melange of seemingly familiar ingredients into an entirely new sort of crowdpleaser. ![]() However, like series star Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow being inspired by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, the screenwriters also cast their nets further and relied on more unexpected sources like horror, fantasy, and even monster movies for their ideas. For one thing, the movie added in supernatural horror elements to keep the swashbuckling antics scary as well as thrilling, and for another, screenwriters Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio drew from a diverse range of earlier hits for inspiration. Iconic adventure movies like Indiana Jones were the duo’s first and most obvious port of call. However, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise had a few aces up its sleeve that Cutthroat Island was in desperate need of. Worrying that Spielberg quit.Related: Why Terminator Is Better For Margot Robbie Than Pirates of the Caribbean The new one i'm not holding out much hope. Indy 1-3 theres a big action scene and indy manages to escape or win, then just as he's walking off it amps it up again.and again. Worst thing, however, is the story and action scenes never escalate. Cut out Johny Hurt, cut out Shia, cut out the cgi and it would be better. Despite Spielberg saying during production it had little cgi.it had plenty and ruined it. I don't really wanna see Indy's boring dad. It's like they saw the hate for Temple and decided to go the other direction and humor thats not funny. I love it though, and can't stand the hate.Ĭrusade was just boring, however. As a whole, however, it's not as great a film as Raiders, and there's lots of people who dislike it cause it's not as grounded in reality as Raiders and they think it's goofy. Action scenes and the way it amps up the action and escalates is amazing and up there with Raiders. I saw it as a kid and loved it cause it was scarier. ![]() Raiders is one of, if not the greatest action film of all time. I was wondering what you thought about Indiana Jones? The film grain is preserved and provides a very good uptick in fine detail and clarity without being overbearing. The HDR enhancements are tasteful and don't fall into revisionism. Overall, it's an incredible film trilogy.Īs a side note, all 3 films have reference quality restorations on 4K Blu-Ray. However, it does do a few things BRILLIANTLY. So it's either 1st or 3rd depending on my mood. I am torn about this film, because I think it may well be the best one in the series, but on the other hand, it does repeat a few things from Raiders. The Last Crusade is a very entertaining film that went back to Raiders' aesthetic. Temple of Doom is an entertaining prequel, and the rare follow-up film that does not copy its predecessor. And yet at no point does it feel like it's overextending. The cinematography and score are nothing short of dazzling, as is the acting and the sets.įun fact: the film takes place on five continents. I have not the first clue how a 30-year old could already have so much experience so as to create a masterpiece like that. I can't stress it enough how good a film this is. Literally nearly ever scene in this movie is perfect. You will never see a finer film in the adventure genre. The first film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, is one of the greatest achievements in the history of cinema. I just wanted to say I really like Indiana Jones. ![]()
